In Art, we have been exploring portraits and self-portraits and discovering the many different ways artists can represent themselves and communicate ideas about their identity. We explored how portraits can be created in many different ways, using photographs, drawing, colour, words and a range of mixed-media techniques. We even used a poem to create a portrait of ourselves, learning that a portrait does not always have to be a traditional drawing or painting. We experimented with different materials and techniques, thinking carefully about composition, colour, atmosphere and the effects created by our choices.

We have been continuing our exciting work with Northern Ballet! The children have been developing their dance skills, exploring movement and expressing themselves creatively through music and dance. It has been wonderful to see their confidence, creativity and teamwork continue to grow. We can’t wait to see where our next session takes us!

Our class has been taking part in The Mark 10 Mission Rosary Challenge, coming together each day to pray a decade of the Rosary. It has been a lovely opportunity to spend time in prayer, reflect on the life of Jesus and grow closer to Mary. We are very proud of the children for taking on this special prayer challenge with such enthusiasm and reverence.

Miss Leonard was very proud of a group of our KS2 pupils who have volunteered to serve as Altar Servers at school masses. Father Hilton kindly shared a training session for us on Tuesday, and some of our pupils served for the first time for school in our whole school mass yesterday. We hope they continue to serve with faith, kindness and reverence.

Year 5 were delighted to welcome Greg from The Mark 10 Mission into school as part of our special Mark 10 Mission Day.The Mark 10 Mission produces weekly video resources to help children experience the Sunday Gospel and grow in faith. The children regularly enjoy sharing these weekly online sessions together in class, so there was lots of excitement about finally getting to meet Greg in person!

Greg began the day by leading a whole-school worship focused on the important theme of forgiveness. Later, Year 5 enjoyed their own class worship with Greg, giving us the opportunity to explore the message further and think about what forgiveness means in our own lives.

It was wonderful to bring our weekly Mark 10 Mission worship to life and a very special experience for Year 5. Thank you, Greg, for visiting us and making our Mark 10 Mission Day so memorable!

Altar Server Training

I was very proud of a group of our ear 5 pupils who have volunteered to serve as Altar Servers at school masses. We hope they continue to serve with faith, kindness and reverence.

Welcome to Year 5! 

First of all, a huge welcome back to school! We hope you have had a wonderful summer break, enjoyed some well-deserved rest and are feeling ready for an exciting year in Year 5. We are delighted to welcome you back and are really looking forward to learning, exploring and having fun together.

Year 5 is going to be a fantastic adventure, with lots of exciting learning, challenges and opportunities along the way. We will travel through rainforests, explore the wonders of space and journey back in time to discover the Ancient Greeks. There will also be plenty of opportunities to develop new skills, challenge ourselves and, of course, make some very special memories along the way!

Our aim is for every child to feel happy, confident and successful in Year 5. To help you achieve your very best, we ask for two things:

Always try your best and believe in yourself.

There will be times when learning feels tricky, but remember that making mistakes is an important part of learning. Be brave, keep going and never be afraid to have a go. With a positive attitude and a belief in yourself, you can achieve more than you might imagine!

One thing you will quickly discover about us is just how much we love reading! We are excited to share our passion for books with you and introduce you to new authors, characters and worlds. Our class library is stocked with a wide range of books, ready for you to explore. Whether you love adventure, fantasy, humour, history or discovering fascinating facts, there will always be something waiting for you.Our biggest piece of advice for Year 5? Read, read and then read a little bit more!

We encourage you to take some time to read our half-termly curriculum newsletter, which will be available on our class page. A paper copy will also be sent home during the first week of each half term. The newsletter will include useful information such as PE days, key dates, upcoming activities and important reminders, as well as ideas for research, reading and activities that can help to enrich your child's learning at home.

Most importantly, remember that our classroom is your classroom. We want you to feel comfortable sharing your ideas, asking questions, making suggestions and taking an active role in our Year 5 community. We have an exciting year ahead of us, and we can't wait to see what we can achieve together.
