Reception

Autumn One – Maths: Exploring Patterns

Reception have had lots of fun learning about patterns this term! We have explored patterns through music, natural objects and lots of exciting activities. The children have enjoyed making and continuing simple patterns, sorting objects and spotting different patterns, such as stripes and spots.

We have loved discovering patterns all around us and sharing our ideas with our friends.

Well done, Reception! You are all pattern superstars! 🌟👏

Autumn One – Literacy – Goldilocks and The Three Bears 🐻🐻🐻

This half term, our Reception children have been busy exploring the traditional tale of Goldilocks and the Three Bears.

The children have enjoyed sequencing the story and developing their storytelling skills by using prosody, changing their voices to bring each of the characters to life!

We also decided to make Baby Bear a delicious new breakfast! The children used their fine motor skills to carefully cut pieces of fruit and arrange them to create their very own Baby Bear pancakes. 🥞🍓🍌

After discovering that Goldilocks had broken Baby Bear’s chair, the children put their creative thinking and problem-solving skills to the test by designing and making brand-new chairs for him! 🪑

The children have thoroughly enjoyed exploring our first literacy text, showing wonderful imagination, creativity and enthusiasm throughout.

We are now looking forward to discovering the next traditional tale in our curriculum!

Well done, Reception! 🌟 Your fantastic ideas, creativity and storytelling skills have been amazing. What a wonderful start to our literacy learning this year!

Religious Education: Celebration of The Word with Mark 10 Mission

Reception were delighted to have a very special visitor this week. Greg from The Mark 10 Mission lead our “Celebration of the Word.”

We gathered together and listened carefully to the Gospel story of “The Good Shepherd”. We reflected on how Jesus is our Good Shepherd, who loves, guides and cares for each one of us. The children then joined in prayer, taking a quiet moment to think about how we can follow Jesus and show His love to others through our words and actions each day. We joyfully joined in with the hymn ‘Jesus Is the Vine’, with Greg singing together and using the actions. It was a beautiful time of prayer, reflection and celebration as we continue our journey of “Growing together on a journey with Jesus”. Well done, Reception. We are so proud of you all!

Religious Education – Creation and Covenant

In Religious Education, the Reception children have been learning about Creation and Covenant through the story of Creation in the Book of Genesis.

The children have explored how God created our beautiful world, including the sun, moon, stars, plants, animals and people. Through stories, songs, artwork and discussions, they have been discovering the wonderful gifts God has given us.

They have also been thinking about how we can show love and care for God's creation by looking after plants, animals and the world around us.

The children have enjoyed sharing what they love most about God's wonderful world and learning that everything God created is good!

Welcome to Reception at St Anthony’s Catholic School

"Growing together on a journey with Jesus"

Reception is the beginning of an exciting journey. As our children grow and learn, we want them to know that Jesus is always with them, guiding us to be kind, caring, loving and respectful towards one another.

Our Reception Ethos:

In EYFS, we develop emotionally resilient learners that are achieving foundational skills to become lifelong lovers of learning.

This is created from Luke 2:40 which anchors our EYFS ethos:

"And the child grew and became strong; he was filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was on him." (Luke 2:40)

To achieve this ethos, we have in our Reception class:

Intentional emotional support: Adults provide consistent, responsive support to help children recognise and manage their emotions, build confidence and develop resilience and independence.

Strong foundations: Secure core skills in Communication, PSED, Physical Development, Literacy, Maths and Creative Development, enabling every child to make progress.

Strong adult interactions: Adults model, question, scaffold and extend learning through purposeful, responsive interactions.

Intentional teaching: Explicit teaching of key knowledge and skills through focused adult-led sessions, with targeted interventions and catch-up sessions where needed.

Child-led learning: Children apply taught skills through purposeful play, with adults observing, responding and scaffolding.

We look forward to sharing this special journey with you and watching your child grow, flourish and shine with Jesus by their side.

You will find all of learning in the above stars (Long term and medium-term planning) and our newsletter.

We look forward to seeing you all this week,

Miss Duffy and The Reception Team.
