World Book Day 2025
Paddington (also known as Mrs Roberts) landed in Beeston to lead Year 2 in our World Book Day celebrations! What a lovely day of reading Year 2 experienced. Several teachers led mystery story telling sessions with the children, bringing their love of reading alive with our Year 2 class. The children came dressed in their own favourite book characters, learned to create their own characters from author Nadia Shireen, made bookmarks and enjoyed marmalade sandwiches! A very special day to celebrate books and love of reading indeed. Keep reading Year 2!
PE: Year 2's Skipping School Visit - February 2025

In History during Spring 2025, Year 2 will be celebrating the significant people in nursing and recognising why they should be remembered. Our first learning objective was to identify and explain why a nurse is important. We had the fantastic opportunity to interview a dedicated nurse, Mrs. Samuel, to gain insight into her responsibilities and her important role at the hospital. Before the interview, the children prepared several insightful questions about being a nurse in modern times. Mrs. Samuel was very impressed with the children's questions and was eager to share her thoughts and give examples. She also emphasised the importance of hand-washing and hygiene and also brought the medical equipment she regularly uses. Our topic has extended to include focus lessons, as well as fieldwork to The Thackray Medical Museum in Leeds, where Year 2 took part in a bespoke workshop led by Florence Nightingale. Year 2 have learnt so much knowledge about this most important person. Ask them all about her! What brilliant historians you are Year 2, using sources of evidence to find out about the past.
Year 2's Visit to Thackray Medical Museum
Year 2 had an absolutely exciting day in their school trip to the Thackray Medical Museum. The focus of the visit was Florence Nightingale and the children dived into her early life, education and remarkable contributions to nursing. 🩺💕
The day began with a workshop where the children had the chance to dress up as porters and nurses. They stepped into the shoes of medical professionals at Scutari hospital, learning how to care for patients. Through hands-on activities and interactive storytelling, the children explored the foundations of early nursing practice. The enthusiasm and participation from all the children truly brought Florence’s story to life! Each child walked away not only with knowledge but also with a greater appreciation for the vital role nurses play in our lives today. 🚑✨
It was a day filled with laughter, learning, and unforgettable memories! A heartfelt thank you to Thackray Medical Museum for hosting the children's educational adventure. 🌟
An Interview with a Nurse
DT - Cooking and Nutrition
The topic in DT was Cooking and Nutrition, so the children learned about food groups and balanced diets. They also practised their food preparation skills such as cutting, spreading and grating to make a fruit salad and a healthy wrap.
PE - Gymnastics using apparatus
Throughout the half-term, the children developed a variety of gymnastics movements (e.g. different jumps, rolls and balances) and pathways (curved, zig-zag). They then linked these together to perform them on apparatus. By the end of the term, their confidence has grown so much that they were able to create their own sequences! Well done, Year 2!
Jubilee 2025 - Pilgrims of Hope at St Anthony's Catholic Primary School
Maths in action - Spring 1 2025
The Year 2 children started working on their multiplication skills by making equal groups using counters. Then they made their own pictorial representations before moving on to number sentences showing repeated addition and multiplication number facts.

KS1 Nativity - A Bundle of Joy
On Tuesday 17th December 2024, Year One and Year Two shared their retelling of "Bundle of Joy". This narrative of the Christmas story was absolutely beautiful, including liturgical dance, drama, song and contemplation. What a beautiful way to share the story of the birth of Jesus. What a super effort from everyone! Well done, boys and girls!
History Wonder Day - How has St Anthony's changed since 1911?
Year Two had an afternoon of discovery and enjoyment as they learned all about the history of St Anthony's Catholic Primary School. Our special guests, Miss Leonard and Mr Chris Kehoe, gladly talked about their own experiences and shared photographs of when they were pupils of St. Anthony's many years ago. The children prepared some very thoughtful questions which our guests happily answered.
The children got to look through some historical sources and could not believe how old some of them were! They were so excited to find some pictures of teachers and teaching staff who have been with our school for so many years! They also enjoyed doing some technical drawings, handwriting and sewing.
RE: Advent Wreath Making

RE: Christmas Decorations
Year Two have begun the season of Advent by preparing together. They have begun to decorate their classroom, creating their own nativity scene and putting up their Christmas tree. All the children are thinking about preparations during Advent, and worked with such love and care to prepare together. Well done, Year Two.
Geography: UK Afternoon Tea Party
What an amazing Wonder Day our Year Two children had on the 17th of October! As part of their Geography journey, they learned not just about the capital cities of the United Kingdom, but also the fabulous landmarks that make them special. The afternoon kicked off with a virtual tour of London, followed by a thrilling scavenger hunt to find famous sights. To top it all off, they enjoyed a delightful afternoon tea party! Their lovely table manners and splendid bows and curtsies made the event truly memorable. What a delightful bunch they are! 🌟🥳
History: Black History Month
What an inspiring month we've had in Year 2 for Black History Month! The children delved into the life of Mary Seacole, creating a timeline that highlighted how she broke down prejudices to support soldiers during the Crimean War. They also crafted vibrant collages, showcasing her incredible contributions to those in need. But that's not all! The class explored the works of Alma Thomas, the influential artist and teacher, and were so inspired that they created their own abstract paintings in her honour. We’re so proud of their creativity and enthusiasm!🌟
RE: October is the Month of the Holy Rosary
As October is the month of the Holy Rosary, we made our own one-decade rosaries to use in class. The children enjoyed learning how to pray the rosary and were proud of the rosaries they made. Our class learnt the most special prayers of "Hail Mary" and "Glory Be" to ensure we could accurately recite the rosary in unison. Well done, Year Two!
Year Two are mastering writing!

Choral Singing Lessons (Music Curriculum in KS1) September 2024
Mr. Leach was very impressed with Year 2's first choral singing lessons. What an amazing start to their choral singing journey! Their beautiful voices, enthusiasm and respectful behaviour made us all so proud. We can't wait to see how they grow as a choir this year! Today, the children learnt how to warm up their voices, sing together in unison from a repertoire of sacred and familiar songs. They mastered "He's got the whole world in his hands" as well as "The Gruffalo" whilst repeating refrains in different languages. Miss Leonard visited and was VERY impressed. We were awarded the Headteacher Award this week in our Good Work Assembly as a result of this high standard. Keep this up Year 2!
Geography - The United Kingdom
The children thoroughly enjoyed identifying and locating the four countries of the United Kingdom. Using an atlas, they explored the diverse landscapes and key features of England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. It's wonderful to see their enthusiasm for discovering the world around them!
Our Class Text: The True Story of the Three Little Pigs
The Year 2 children were delighted to explore this hilarious retelling of a classic tale! Unlike the traditional story, this version offers a unique perspective from the wolf himself, filled with humour and unexpected twists. It has been a fantastic way for our young readers to learn about the features of traditional tales while enjoying this text to the full.
