We learnt about the life of Abraham and his covenant with God. We discussed how he lived out the virtues of faith, hope and love. We found out about the life of Oscar Romero and reflected on how the virtues of faith, hope and love influenced him. We thought about how we can live out these virtues in our own lives.

We found out about the life of Saint Oscar Romero. Inspired by his life, we designed our own Romero crosses.

Our learning about volcanoes and earthquakes was brought to life during our fantastic 'Geography Wonder Day'. Using drama, movement and role play, we explored key aspects of the physical geography of volcanoes and earthquakes. We found out about a wide range of significant natural disasters, including the events in Pompeii in 79AD.  We worked together to prepare and share news broadcasts about what to do in an earthquake.  Our visitor was amazed with our fantastic knowledge and understanding about this interesting topic. This was a wonderful experience that had us all erupting with excitement!

We really enjoyed our skipping workshop with our visitor from 'Skipping School'. This was a fantastic opportunity to learn a wide range of new skipping techniques. We will practise these in readiness for the 'Skipping Festival' in the Spring term.

Well done Year 4!

During our art topic 'Light and Dark, we developed our skills of colouring mixing. We learnt how to use shades and tints to create a desired effect.  We found out how to create a still life composition and created our own using objects to represent some of the subjects we study in school. After drawing our compositions, we used our new skills to produce quality finished pieces. 

We thoroughly enjoyed sharing our ‘Celebration of the Word’ with Greg from the Mark 10 Mission.

He read a passage from Luke’s Gospel (9: 28-36) and invited us to reflect upon the words we heard.

Here are examples of our words, thoughts and reflections during our Year Four Celebration of The Word:

‘I felt loved by God. I enjoyed singing the songs to God and participating in the actions. I feel blessed I got to see Greg.’

‘I felt welcomed because it’s the first time that we saw Greg in person. I enjoyed asking him questions.’

‘I felt calm being with God and talking to Jesus. I enjoyed his reading of the gospel.’

‘I felt happy because Greg taught us to think deeply about the gospel reading.’

‘I felt amazed because we watch him on the tv and he came to our school. I enjoyed asked my questions and he helped me to understand.’

This was a wonderful experience that we will cherish forever.

God promised that Abram would have a son and as many descendants as the stars; in return, Abram believed in God and trusted him. We created artwork inspired by this.

Your Year 4 Adults: Teacher: Miss Peacey

I hope that you have had a super holiday and are excited about the wonderful year that we are going to share together. I am really looking forward to getting to know you all and helping you to shine brightly in all that you do. I have planned a wide range of creative, challenging and fun opportunities that will give you the chance to showcase your learning in a variety of ways. During our time in Year 4, we will enjoy the writing of C.S. Lewis, find out about life in Ancient Egypt and investigate volcanoes and earthquakes. Throughout the year, we will carry out a wide range of science investigations and make good use of our art and design skills. We will learn about the lives of many important people from the Bible together with preparing and sharing class collective acts of worship. We will enjoy developing our Maths skills through problem solving and investigating and will understand how we can transfer these important skills into everyday life.

I know that you are all committed to working hard and will strive to do your best! I am looking forward to our time together and making it a year to remember!

We encourage you to take some time to read our half-termly curriculum newsletter, which will be available on our class page. A paper copy will also be sent home during the first week of each half term. The newsletter will include useful information such as PE days, key dates, upcoming activities and important reminders, as well as ideas for research, reading and activities that can help to enrich your child's learning at home.
