Our MFL vision, at St Anthony’s Primary School, is to foster a natural curiosity about the wider world and develop an enthusiastic and positive attitude when learning another language. We believe that the learning of another language gives children a new perspective on the world, promotes global citizenship and encourages them to understand their own culture and that of others. Our aim is for all children, by the end of KS2, to have a secure foundation in French that will facilitate the learning of other foreign languages later in life.
French Lessons at St Anthony's
French in Years 4 and 5 - Autumn Term 2023-2024
Fabulous French - 2023
Our weekly French lessons in Key Stage 2 provide every child with the opportunity to develop both oral and written fluency. At the end of every half term, each child is able to showcase their retention of knowledge with the end of unit quiz. We are very proud of the standard of our work by the end of Year 6. C'est Magnifique!
Our inspirational MFL lessons are held weekly by a visiting expert French teacher.
Year 6 - French
Year 6 thoroughly enjoy their weekly French lessons with Madame Matias. Watch the video above to see the children revising body parts through a game of ‘Simon Says...’ as well as seeing them learn all French numbers between 0 and 100 with some comical dance moves!
Year 6 French
Throughout Spring 1, Year 6 have thoroughly enjoyed their weekly French lessons. We have focused on the names of our family members, hobbies, where we live, how old we are and the names of different fruits. In our final lesson, we showed how much we had learnt by creating a puppet show and having a conversation in French.
Year 5 French
Year 5 thoroughly enjoy their weekly French lessons with Madame Matias. Lessons are taught using a native French epxert teacher from Junior Jam, working alongside our own teachers. Watch the video above to see the children revising body parts through a game of ‘Simon Says...’ as well as seeing them learn all French numbers between 0 and 100 with some comical dance moves! The carefully crafted sequence of learning has allowed our pupils to progress really well with their French skills over Key Stage 2. Well done Year 5.
Year 4 French
We really enjoy our French lessons with Madame Matias. Working with a French language expert helps us to develop the use of correct pronunciation when conversing with each other. Through a combination of games, songs and written activities we have made great progress in the development and use of the French language. Madame Matias was also able to add an extra dimension to our geography topic on France as she could give us an insight into French culture and traditions. This helped to bring our 'French Wonder Day' to life.
Year 3 French Work
Take a look at some of the fantastic work Year 3 have been doing in French. We have been learning to say where we live, how old we are, numbers and also colours! For our fantastic work and participation in class we have earnt French stickers!
Fantastic French
Throughout Key Stage Two, we have been working very hard to develop our written French work.
