Year 3
RE - Reflecting on the work of the Fairtrade Foundation
In Year 3, we learnt about the Fairtrade Foundation and how it helps farmers and workers to be treated fairly. We thought carefully about the people who grow our food and wrote our own special prayers, thanking God for farmers and asking Him to help us treat everyone with fairness, kindness and dignity. We created a special worship space and gathered together to read our precious prayers aloud. We were delighted to invite Miss Leonard to join us for our worship time as we reflected on how we can all make a difference and help to make the world a fairer place.
RE Artwork - Reflecting on the story of Creation from Genesis
Today, Year 3 worked amazingly hard to explore the Christian story of Creation from Genesis 1. They learned about what God created on each of the seven days and discussed how the story describes the beginning of the world.
The children then used their Creation Wheel templates to create their own realistic illustrations for each stage of the story. They carefully considered how they could represent light and darkness, the sky, land and plants, the sun, moon and stars, sea creatures and birds, land animals and people, and finally a day of rest.
It was wonderful to see the children using their creativity while also demonstrating their understanding of the sequence of the Creation story. They worked thoughtfully and carefully to bring each part of the story to life through their drawings. Well done Year 3!
RHE - Role Playing Scenarios when Things Feel Bad
Today, Year 3 took part in discussions and roleplay activities to consider how bullying affects people, and what strategies can be employed to resist pressure and practise resilience. We developed a greater awareness of bullying (including cyber-bullying), learning that all bullying is wrong, and how to respond to bullying. Yaer 3 developed their understanding of the meaning of ‘pressure’ and ‘resilience’, and the importance of seeking support from trusted adults. Year 3 demonstrated amazing emotional maturity and empathy in discussion/roleplay activities and confidently give examples of how to resist pressure by practising resilience. Amazing work!
Mark 10 Mission Day
Year 3 really enjoyed taking part in a special Celebration of the Word with Greg from Mark 10 Mission. We gathered together in a circle and listened carefully to the Gospel story of the Transfiguration of Jesus. Afterwards, we reflected on what we had heard and discussed why Jesus chose to take his disciples up a mountain – a quiet and peaceful place where he could pray and feel close to his Father. We then thought about where our own ‘mountains’ might be: special places where we can find peace, pray and feel close to God. The children shared some thoughtful ideas, including their bedrooms, gardens, our classroom, church and the local park.
NSPCC: Speak Out Stay Safe
Year 3 took part in the NSPCC’s Speak Out Stay Safe virtual assembly. The children explored different types of worries and learned how sharing a worry with a trusted adult can help to make it feel smaller. They were introduced to different types of abuse and discussed how to recognise when something may not be right. The children also identified safe adults they could speak to, both in and out of school, and learned about Childline and how it can support children who are worried or need someone to talk to.
