St Anthony's Day 2019

'A Child in 1918' Themed Week

We celebrated a special themed week called 'A Child in 1918'. During the week, we had lots of fun experiencing a school day in 1918, we enjoyed a soldier workshop learning about lives in the trenches, we met authors of WW1 books and watched a play called 'Living with the War'. We also had a whole school trip to Beamish where each class had a workshop and explored the period towns and villages. To finish the week we attended a Mass for the War Dead and held peace parties in our classes. What an amazing week full of fun, learning and reflection! A huge thank you to the children, parents, staff and governors for all contributing to the success of the week!

Remember to look at your class pages for lots of photos of the week! Take a look at just some of our photos below...

Year 6 at St Anthony's Catholic Primary School in Leeds have been studying how Robi's amazing technological Sensors work, and writing some fantastic, descriptive Science Fiction to show what they have been learning about during Technology Week. Listen to the story they wrote and they programmed Robi to perform it. Well done Year 6.

Leeds and Holbeck Cup Winners 2016

St Anthony's 2 v 0 Bardsey

St Anthony's Under 11's became Leeds and Holbeck Cup winners when they beat an excellent Bardsey team in a frenetic final at Garforth Town FC. Bardsey certainly started the better of the two sides and missed some good opportunities in the first five minutes. However, St Anthony's showed their resilience and eventually grew into the game, with Aiden, Josh and Alex in fine form in defence. Ted worked as hard as ever and was constantly looking for the ever willing Alfie. After 16 minutes, St Anthony's took the lead with a touch of pure brilliance. Ryan produced some breathtaking skill on the touchline to beat his man. He passed the ball inside to Charlie who took two touches before curling a 25-yard effort into the top corner of the net. It was an an incredible strike and it sent the huge number of St Anthony's supporters into raptures. Half-time 1-0.

The second half started with St Anthony's on the front foot, with the team fighting for every single ball. Finley was setting the tone, winning every header and providing composure when it was needed. Marcus was tenacious and defended brilliantly while Charlie and Alfie became more and more involved in the game and were constant thorns in the sides of the opposition, providing the attacking threat the team needed. Bardsey applied heavy pressure, but Daniel in goal was quick off his line and produced an outstanding save late on, while the back three continued to be as brave as lions. With two minutes remaining, a long throw-in fell at the feet of Finley and the captain made no mistake to make it 2-0. The roar of the crowd almost took the roof off the stadium! Joel came on to make sure the team stayed solid and did a perfect job. The final whistle was greeted with great celebrations as St Anthony's won the cup for only the second time.

A huge thank you to everyone who has support the team over the years. They could not have afternoons such as this one without your brilliant support and the atmosphere you created at the game was very special. A huge thank you must also go to Mr Daly and Mr Hanson for the time they have spent helping this team to develop.

Last but not least, congratulations to the squad who have battled so hard to gain this success. The school could not be prouder of you.

Futsal Champions - Friday 6th March

Our children in Year 5 once again showed their sporting prowess with victory in the West Yorkshire Winter Games Futsal Competition. Having entered two teams, 14 children had the opportunity to participate in the event. Both teams played some fantastic football, resulting in the team coached by Mr Hanson reaching the final. In a tense finale, the boys emerged victorious with a 1-0 win over Thornbury. This was quite an achievement, with over 30 schools at the event. All of the children were a credit to the school, as were all of our parents who provided fantastic support as ususal. A special mention must go to Marcus Hood - his goalkeeping performances were inspired!

Year 5 'Chance to Shine' Champions 2014

Still image for this video
A team of Year 5 children showed just how talented they are by winning the 'Chance to Shine' cricket tournament at Lords cricket ground in London. After a long journey to the capital, the children were treated to a tour of the ground and the impressive facilities. They then faced a number of schools and cricket clubs from across the country, winning three of their four group matches. This led to a tense 'bowl off' for a place in the final. That place was secured when Tilly Davies bowled perfectly at the stumps. The final showed St Anthony's qualities as a team, as the loss of early wickets meant the rest of the squad had to dig deep. After posting a competitive total, it was up to the bowlers to do their job...and they did! The opposition were bowled out and the title belonged to St Anthony's. The children were a credit to the school, their enthusiasm was infectious and their play a pleasure to watch. Many thanks to Mr Hanson and Mr Daly for their efforts - it was certainly a long, long day!
