Growing together on a journey with Jesus

Year One visit Harlow Carr Gardens

On Tuesday 13th May, we went to Harlow Carr Gardens in Harrogate to learn more about the food we can grow and eat. We had the most wonderful day and the weather was beautiful. After we arrived we explored the garden in groups. We spotted different flowers and named the parts. We thought about why flowers are brightly coloured! After, we took the pathway through the woodland where we named parts of the trees - we couldn't believe how big they were. We all enjoyed playing with our friends in the amazing play areas. By the end of the morning we were all very hungry. We ate lunch under the shade of a tree before our 'Fantastic Food' workshop began. During the workshop we discussed how we can tell the different between fruit and vegetables, then we sorted some. We went to the greenhouse to plant our own peas before walking to the kitchen garden where we went hunting for the fruit and vegetables that were growing. We finished our day with a drink and snack before some well-deserved rest. The children were absolutely amazing, as always. They had super manners and their beautiful behaviour really shone. We had lovely comments from the education leader, members of the public and even the coach driver.
