Happy New Year
I hope that you have had a wonderful Christmas and I wish you a very happy New Year! On behalf of myself and Mrs Caley, I would like to thank you for your lovely cards and gifts. They are very much appreciated.
As we begin another very busy half term, I would like to give you a summary of some of the areas that we will be studying. We will be reading and enjoying a wide range of mystery stories. The children will use these to inspire their own stories. Our history topic will be a focus on Mayan society, the children will explore what daily life was like, find out about the ancient counting system and explore why the Mayans built the pyramids.
On our return from Robinwood, the children will write recounts which will celebrate their experiences.
In science we will learn about forces, including air resistance and gravity. In our topic on 'Inspirational People' we will, in particular focus on the contribution of Nelson Mandela and reflect on his legacy.
If there is anything you wish to discuss with me at any time then please make an appointment and I would be happy to see you.
Thank you for your support.

Welcome to Year 5
I hope that you have had a super holiday and are excited about the wonderful year that we are going to share together. I am really looking forward to getting to know you all and helping you to achieve your potential. I have planned a wide range of creative, challenging and fun opportunities that will give you the chance to showcase your learning in a variety of ways. During your time in Year 5, we will enjoy the writing of Robert Louis Stevenson, find out about life in Ancient Greece and investigate the history of space exploration. Throughout the year, we will carry out a wide range of science investigations and make good use of our design skills. We will enjoy developing our maths skills through problem solving and investigating and will understand how we can transfer these important skills into everyday life.
I know that you are all committed to working hard and will strive to do your best! I am looking forward to our time together and making it a year to remember!
Here are some things to help you:
*Remembering to have both your PE kit in school at all times
(Indoor – white top and black shorts. Outdoor – black tracksuit.)
*Reading every night and making sure an adult signs your planner.
*Work on your spellings and times tables every night
(An adult doesn’t have to always test you)
*Producing high quality homework which is handed in on time.
*Come into school everyday, excited and ready to learn!
I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a happy and restful holiday. This has been a wonderful year and I would like to thank you all for your continued enthusiasm and hard work. I would also like to say a huge thank you for all your wonderful cards and gifts.
Have a super holiday and I look forward to seeing you in September as you begin your last year at St Anthony's.
